One of the earliest buildings
constructed in the area, probably about the same time as completion
of the canal 1796 - 97. Was owned by the Canal Company for the
whole time until being dismantled by George Clark (with help)
about 1956. First used as a store but with many uses later. Used
by Joseph Going in it's early years. Was used by Bentall in the
latter part of the 19th Century as the first base for the Blackwater
Sailing Club, which moved out to their current premises in 1902.
Jimmy Woodcraft boatbuilder, shipping agent, and marine store,
occupied it from 1908 - 1937. After it's removal the Canal Company
replaced it with a large corrugated iron building, known in the
village as 'The Red Shed'. |
