'The Old Ship' building

 The building on the corner by the lock which is currently 'The Old Ship' pub

 Built on the corner at a slightly later date, as an addition to the row of cottages which had already been numbered No1 - 3 Lock Hill.

 The Lock Keepers House from 1863 - 1902

 Arthur Butcher moved from over the other side of the Lock (after selling his house to the Canal Company) in to the building in 1902 and opened a tea rooms there for a very short time, operated by Arthur's wife while waiting to move in to their new house 'Seaview'.

 From 1902 - 1925 it was a Home For Motherless Children (HMC), called 'Sunnyside'. Miss Clara Webb was Matron in charge and lived closeby in No7 Lock Hill, called the 'Robins Nest' (Bill Percy's house at the end of the row).

 First Landlord of the new 'The Old Ship' pub on Lock Hill, was Herbert Maslin in 1926.
