 The 'Woodcraft' family

It's not known when the Woodcraft family first came to the village or where they came from, but they were very early settlers. The first recorded death in the village was from the Woodcraft family, he is recorded to have drowned in a barrel of beer.

The Woodcraft's were the villages prominent boatbuilders during the 19th Century and early 20th. Jimmy Woodcraft operated several others businesses as well as building boats, followed by John Woodcraft, and William 'Coody' Woodcraft built barges as well as operating with them. Ben Woodcraft was a professional fisherman, operating from the late 1970's until the 90's. Ben was the very last Basin resident full time professional fisherman.
