Heybridge Basin (Cannibal Island)

A Report in the 'Essex County Chronicle September the 2nd 1892

Maldon and Heybridge Basin Regatta. Held in pouring rain, most of the spectators abandoned their positions of vantage for ones of cover. All boats were emptied barring the Committee one, and one youth who played 'Home Sweet Home' on his tin whistle to them. The company aboard the Committee Boat the 'Violet', kindly lent by Mr E.A.Bentall. The player, the tune, and the whole situation was ludicrously melancholy.
