Basin People & Family's

 The earliest residents of the village were Captain Richard Tovee and his family and John Warraker and family. With the Tovee family proven to have been residing there before the canal was constructed. Both were originally salt manufacturers, a common activity for the region for over a thousand years.

 Moved to the Basin from the Maldon area.

 Moore

 Moved to the Basin from Dedham in Norfolk about 1857. Ephrain Moore was a Constable of Heybridge.

 Moved to the Basin from the Maldon area.

 Clark

  The Clark family were farmers in the Maldon area before moving to the Basin. Other family members were Chief Constable, Sergeant At Mace and Baliff in the Maldon and Heybridge district.

 Stebbens

 Jimmy 'Chicky' Stebbens with his wife Mary was the first of the Stebbens family to arrive from Maldon. In Maldon they owned a fish shop as well as prop of the 'Queens Head' public house.

 Chaney

 The Chaney's came from the North East Coast of England, and arrived with their ship the 'Robert Adamson'.
